Privacy Policy

Almost everything Goodest holds is about your dog. The small part that is about you is there so their record has an owner.

This page says what we keep, who else sees it, and how to make it all go away. It is written to be read, once, by a person who would rather be outside with their dog.

What you give us

• An email address or a phone number. One of these is how we know a dog's record is yours.
• Your name, if you sign in with Apple or Google, plus whatever address they pass along. Apple's Hide My Email sends us the relay address. We never see your real one.
• Your dog's name. Their sex, breed and birthday if you feel like it.
• Photographs from the setup scan, if you take one. A few angles, so the app can pick them out later and work out their build, coat and rough weight.

What the app records

• Video and audio of your sessions. These upload and stay, because they are the evidence behind a badge. They will hold whatever else was in frame and in earshot, other people included.
• Measurements read off that footage: where your dog's joints are, depth readings from the camera, and still frames.
• Photographs you import from your library, if you use that.

What stays on the phone

• Speech in your recordings is transcribed on the phone and never goes to Apple. The text uploads with the attempt, because a badge that depends on you giving a cue has to show that you gave it.
• How your dog looks, measured on the phone so the app can tell your dogs apart. Those measurements do not leave it.

What we pick up on our own

• Your time zone, so a day of training means your day.
• Ordinary technical records of requests to our servers.

We collect no location, no contacts, no health data and no advertising identifiers. There is no analytics or advertising code in the app at all.

Who else sees it

• Supabase runs the database and the file storage.
• Google receives your recordings. That one is significant, so it gets its own section below.
• Apple and Google see what a sign-in involves, and only if you sign in with them.
• A messaging provider delivers your sign-in code.

What goes to Google, exactly

Reading an attempt well enough to award a badge is past what a phone can do alone, so footage goes to Google's Gemini models. Three things go, for three reasons:

• The whole recording, audio included. After an attempt uploads, the complete file is sent and watched, so a badge rests on the footage rather than on the phone's guess at where your dog's joints were. The audio goes with it, which means anything said or overheard in the room goes with it. Your on-device transcript rides alongside, so a cue you gave can be lined up against what your dog did next.
• Photographs from the setup scan, to work out breed, build, coat and rough weight.
• Still frames and a written description, to make the renders.

Your email address, your phone number and your name go with none of it.

Google does not learn from any of it. Our Gemini project sits on a paid billing tier, and on that tier Google does not use what we send to improve its own models.

We do learn from it. The app is trained on the footage people send, yours included. It reads the skeleton and only the skeleton: where your dog's joints are, frame by frame, and the pose that frame was labelled as. Your video, your audio and your identity are not in the training data and never leave our storage.

Delete your account and your clips go, and the skeletons read from them go. Anything already published stays published, because what has learned from a recording cannot unlearn it. It holds no copy of your video, your audio, or anything naming you.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it for advertising.

Households

Invite somebody into a household and everyone in it sees every dog in it, footage included. Inviting somebody is sharing your recordings with them. You can remove a member, anybody can leave, and a dog goes with whoever owns them.

Keeping and deleting

We keep your footage and your dog's record until you delete them.

Delete your account from inside the app, under Settings. It removes your account, your dogs, every clip, every badge and every file, video and audio in storage included. It happens immediately and it cannot be undone.

Nothing you have deleted trains anything afterwards. Copies can sit in ordinary backups for a short while before they age out, and anything already published stays published.

An account that was never given an identity, never had a dog, and never filmed anything is removed on its own after seven days.

Children

Goodest is not for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything about them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct, export or delete what we hold. Deleting is built into the app. For anything else, write to us.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
